IT’S TIME FOR A NEW WARDROBE
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, (Ephesians 4:22 NKJV)
Our fast may have resulted in our body and lifestyle losing a few things:
- Bad eating habits
I am absolutely certain, however, that we have shed some unwanted things from our spiritual bodies. We’ve lost:
- Weights (things that hold us back from true relationship with Jesus and hinders our walk with Him)
- Sins (the very things that SEPARATE us from God completely)
- Bad living habits.
Here’s the principle of a fast. It’s also the principle of a changed lifestyle or, in the more important spiritual realm, a changed life.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN CHANGING YOUR SPIRIT LIFE-YOU MUST BE WILLING TO “PUT OFF” SOME THINGS AND “PUT ON” OTHERS.
So let’s take a look at our key verse again in its proper context.
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:17-24 NKJV)
When you change your lifestyle you will notice that the things that you used to wear don’t fit the same anymore. Parts of your wardrobe you will have to discard. The problem is we don’t throw old clothes away-we “save” them just in case we go back to the same lifestyle and body style that we used to live with.
When it comes to our spiritual bodies: we can’t box our old weights and sins away and label it “just in case”–we have to destroy them, completely; do away with them. Because while we might fluctuate between a good and bad eating lifestyle, we cannot afford to fluctuate between a Christian and sinful life. The consequences are eternal and deadly!
Time For A Wardrobe Change:
Things that don’t fit our spirit-life anymore:
- No longer can we live like the sinners do. (verse 17)
- We cannot allow ourselves to be alienated from God-stay close to Him! (verse 18)
- We must put away our callousness, immoral sensuality, and stop enjoying all kinds of impurity. (verse 19)
- We must “put off” (destroy) our old way of living with its corrupt and shady desires. (verse 22)
What does fit our spirit-life:
- We can live successfully with blinded eyes but we’ll die with a blind heart! (verse 18)
- Let’s educate our minds and hearts to the truth that is in only Christ. (verse 21)
- We must have a “new mind” and “put on” a new self that is created to look just like God. (verse 23-24)
- Righteousness and Holiness are our two most favorite “pieces” that have ben added to our Godly wardrobe. (verse 24)
The last thing you have to remember about your new wardrobe. Not everyone will like it-not everyone has to. If God is pleased with the way you present yourself to him-then congratulations! You’re truly “In Style”!
How do I keep this new look?
Check yourself at the altar-not the mirror. “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but The Lord weighs the hearts” (Proverbs 21:2)

TODAY’S PERSONAL PURSUIT
Ladonna is married to Donnie Warren and they have been married for 23 years. They have three children, sons Chace (23), Brennan (18) and daughter, Brooklyn (14). She been going to LFC since she was 17 and was involved in the youth group for longer than that. She says, “Even before I started coming here, I have ALWAYS known about Living Faith.”
Her husband went to the University of Texas at Tyler and Ladonna went to Lee University. Donnie is Assistant Plant Manager for Tyson Foods. Ladonna is on LFC’s Praise & Worship team and a lead vocalist in the choir. Donnie is LFC’s Sunday minister of tithe/offerings.
Fun fact about the Warren family…”We are huge Razorback Fans, but NONE greater than Donnie. I actually make money on game days because people will pay to watch him, watch the game!”
In January of 1991 I got married. For 6 1/2 years it was a marriage plagued with many addictions, and strongholds. After MUCH praying, and begging, I felt a divorce was inevitable. I had tried everything that I knew to do. I was devastated, and heartbroken.
In January of 1998, I went to the foot of the cross. I was broken, with many emotions, but very hungry for more of God. I recall telling God that I was totally content being a single mom, but I had to have more of him in my life. I quickly began to realize that I had never really chased God. It was more like I had crawled after him. I had heard all the bible stories, been in some of the best services, and believed everything I had ever been taught about God, but had never really chased him. Never really gave my whole self to him. I always knew he was with me as I struggled through these dark times, but I couldn’t seem to let go of the past. I began to chase after God so vigorously. Even as I type this,my heart beats faster with excitement. He began to reveal, and show me things. My ex-husband had given his life to God, and now my baby boys would have a daddy that loved God. As I kept chasing God he kept lightening my load. My bag got smaller, and my hunger grew. Walls I had built up began to fall, and I GOT my JOY BACK!!!! HE GAVE ME MY SONG BACK. HE GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK!!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!! As I kept pursuing God, he kept revealing himself to me. You see, my ex-husband is my best friend. He is the love of my life, and he is Donnie Warren.
What God intends to be, will be. NO MATTER WHAT!!!! I have never been so honored to say that my husband and I no longer crawl, but we chase him, with a small limp. This is our reminder of how far God has brought us. It is a reminder that we will never be perfect but will always strive to please him, and a reminder that we WILL ALWAYS come through the fire!!! “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6.
SO Thankful to God for all he has done in our lives.
Diligently Pursuing God!!!! – LaDonna Warren
“I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” – Psalm 18:1-6
