Church history reveals there has been much wrangling and even harsh divisions over who is in charge. According to God’s Word there is a clear distinction between churches and the Holy Spirit as to WHO is in charge.
Here is the truth. God, Christ and Holy Spirit all make up one God-head and the Church is His body. This spiritual body submits to the commands and will of this one God-head.
- Churches are subordinate to the Spirit of God and to His inspired Word. 2 Peter 1:20-21 gives us the order of rank very clearly. “20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
- The Holy Spirit is not the possession of churches or any human institution. He is the Spirit of God and of Christ, not the Spirit of the churches. (you can read this in Revelation 3:1) The Holy Spirit is free and has authority to come into fellowship with or to leave churches according to God’s righteous standards.
- The Holy Spirit represents the present Lordship of Christ over the churches. Churches must constantly judge their beliefs and actions by the Spirit. They cannot trust in, obey and listen to themselves.
- The Holy Spirit will reside in any church only as it remains faithful to Christ. Only as churches are faithful to His Word, hears and does what the Spirit says will they find themselves in His presence and full of His power.
Mankind, left to its own limited understanding and seemingly unlimited pride will destroy the fellowship of churches. Yet, when we lovingly submit to Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to “lead and guide us into all truth”….the Church will thrive and the gates of Hell will not prevail against us.
Let’s allow The One who created and sustains all things BE THE BOSS!
